Ancient Amulet: effect, activation and limitations

AllThings.How — Rare Items That Counter Michael Myers ↗ describes an automatic defensive interruption and a consumed amulet. A separate community item page has described a hotbar condition rather than an in-hand condition.

Because that distinction changes how you play, this guide does not label either condition as independently verified.

Before an important objective, check that the amulet is still present and selected. Do not assume that a protection effect remains available after the item has disappeared. If you are comparing activation rules, record the selected slot immediately before the encounter.

Our recommendation is to avoid building an escape plan around an unverified duration or damage number. The sources reviewed here do not justify a precise timing calculator.

The amulet reports concern defensive activation; the Fragile Hourglass guide concerns an aimed throw. That is the useful decision to understand before carrying either into a fight. For a coordinated alternative, read the arrest sequence.

IllFonic — Patch Notes 1.1.0 ↗ lists a fix for an issue where Civilian players could break another Civilian player’s Ancient Amulet. If you lost an ally’s amulet that way before October 6, it should no longer happen. The notes do not change the reported activation condition discussed above.

IllFonic — Tower Farm Terror (Patch 1.2.0 notes) ↗ (October 27, 2026) lists a fix for an issue where the Ancient Amulet could Blind Civilians. Read it against the activation caveat above: the fix is about who the amulet’s effect can hit, and it says nothing about whether the amulet must be held or only sit in the hotbar.
